Raising children who transform nations®
Children of the Nations® (COTN®) is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to raising children out of poverty and hopelessness so they can become leaders who transform their nations. The organization currently serves in Sierra Leone, Malawi, Uganda, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti, providing care to orphaned and destitute children.
INITIATIVE: SIERRA LEONE RAIN GEAR
From May to September, Sierra Leone is very rainy. Most of the children in our Village Partnership Program (VPP) walk long distances to school every day, and without rain gear, they are left cold and wet. Many of these children are late to school, some miss school entirely, and others get sick-all because they do not have rain gear to protect them from the elements. With your help, we want to provide umbrellas and raincoats for the children in our VPP so that they don't have to walk in the rain.
Impact Story
Adama used to stay home when it rained. She had no raincoat, and her books would get wet if she tried to walk to school. "That made life a bit bad for me," she says. "I think of the fun, friends, and lessons I had to miss."
But then Adama was given a raincoat so she could keep going to school.
"I was so happy to receive this wonderful gift because I never had one in my life!" Adama says.

Why Is This Project Needed?
Children who walk to school in the rain are often late, or they miss school entirely.
Children are susceptible to illness when they are in the rain without protection.
Children's school supplies and books get ruined in the rain.
Strategy
Provide umbrellas and raincoats to 600 children in Sierra Leone.
Outcomes
Children will not get sick as often because they will be protected from the rain.
Better academic performance because children will be attending school more regularly, and their books and supplies will last longer.
