Our Vision

Raising children who transform nations®

Children of the Nations® (COTN®) is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to raising children out of poverty and hopelessness so they can become leaders who transform their nations. The organization currently serves in Sierra Leone, Malawi, Uganda, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti, providing care to orphaned and destitute children. 

According to UNICEF statistics for Malawi every day over 110 people die of malaria - nearly half of them under the age of 18, throughout Africa 3000 children die each day from this preventable disease. Our Village Partnership (VPP) villages are not spared of this disease and as a result the need for Mosquito net for every child in our VPP is inevitable. We have over 1200 children in this program and need to fund an additional 600 nets in the program this year.

This is a special project because we purchase the insecticide laden netting from China and then the women in the village of Mgwayi make the mosquito nets! It is a sustainable story of helping women to become financially independent and empowering them to help their community while preventing malaria.

The Khamalthu women purchase bulk LLN material to make the mosquito nets. We confirmed with the manufacturer that there was not enough insecticide in the material that would cause harm and the women also have quality control monitors to make sure they are not in direct contact with the material for extended periods. This was a safer measure than the women dipping the nets in the chemicals after they are made. Their contact is less than the people who actually sleep under the nets.
